Dell has finally released its 7in Streak on this side of the world but those hoping for a Honeycomb update will be sadly disappointed.
US customers have had their hands on the Dell Streak 7 for a while now but only this week it has been made available through Dell’s website for the rather pleasingly low price of £299. However this will get you the WiFi-only model and running FroYo or Android 2.2. Dell however are claiming an update to Honeycomb is planned but its absence from the start will put some people off. The 7in Streak is the company’s follow up to the original 5in Streak we saw last year. The 7in is more immediately recognisable as a tablet compared to the large mobile phone look of the 5in model.
The Streak 7 comes with nVidia’s dual-core 1GHz Tegra 2 processor, 16GB of storage, a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. The 7in screen is of the WVGA kind with a resolution of 800x480 and on top of FroYo Dell has installed its Stage interface which promises easy access to all your mutlimedia files in one place. It measures 199.9 x 119.8 x 12.4mm and weights in around 450g. Reports from the US suggest the battery life of the tablet was not exactly brilliant but with the lack of 3G on the UK model, the battery life may be a bit better - though this is not an ideal situation.
Dell has a new 10in model in the works but is remaining tight-lipped about the details, but with Windows and Android devices being developed it looks like Dell is in the tablet game for the long haul.
