Dell’s new Chromebook 13 might be the most appealing yet

Dell has outed a new Chromebook that sits nicely between the cheap and cheerful and over-the-top expensive parameters.

The new Chromebook 13, which is being pitched at business users as well as consumers (via The Verge), offers a full 1080p, 13.3-inch screen within a package that starts at a modest $399 (about £250) price point.

Dell’s upgraded machine serves-up a premium design and build quality to complement the 1.5GHz Intel Celeron processor. There’s has 2GB RAM, 16GB of storage and it boots up in under 6 seconds.

There’s a USB 3.0, USB 2.0 and a HDMI port while the whole package weighs in at about 3.2lbs. Battery life is advertised as a full 12-hours.

All in all, there’s plenty to please at a price point much lower than Google’s flagship Chromebook Pixel range.

However, while that $399 tag is an attractive starting point, the notebook gets much more expensive as users add higher-end specs. It can be customised with Intel Core i3 and i5 and up to 8GB of RAM. Storage can be boosted to 32GB, while there’s even an option to add a touchscreen.

The top end model will cost around $700, but that’s still much cheaper than the $1,000 Pixel laptops.

The new Dell Chromebook 13 will be available from September 17. If you’re ready to jump on board with the Chrome OS, this may well be the the right machine to hook up with.
