Updated Latitude range sports new Intel platform.
With today being the day of Santa Rosa, it seems only fitting that long time Intel fanboys Dell be in on the act. At an event in Paris last week it unveiled its newly updated Latitude corporate notebook range, which we are now at liberty to reveal to you.
The mainstream option, the D630, will start at £749 excluding VAT and delivery with a starting weight of 2.03kg and will feature a Core 2 Duo T7100 and a 14.1in WXGA+ display. They’ll also be an ATG version, this being an update to the ATG D620 that Riyad reviewed back in March. Dell also announced plans to unveil the D630c, based on the Centrino Pro platform with vPro, in the autumn.
The D830, the high-performance edition of the Latitude range, will start at £775 excluding VAT and delivery and will also feature a Core 2 Duo T7100 but will boast a 15.4in display with a choice of resolutions and as a result a heftier 2.83kg starting weight.
Both notebooks will include HSDPA 3.6 and, as per Santa Rosa specification, Draft N wireless as well. Dell also stated it would be providing two different TurboMemory solutions, with the choice of a cache card or a Hybrid hard drive with NAND flash built-in. There will also be the option for an encrypted Seagate hard drive, adding to security for those concerned about having their notebook pinched, and SSD hard drives up to 32GB.
Plans for the D430, an update to the ultra portable edition of the Latitude range, are to be announced in the coming weeks.
It isn’t all Intel however; Dell also has a new AMD based notebook to unveil: the D531. Starting at £439 excluding VAT and delivery, it’ll come with a choice of single-core and dual-core AMD processors, a 14.1in WXGA display and will weigh in the region of 2.3kg.
As per current Dell policy there’s a choice of operating systems available, with Vista Business, Home Basic and XP Professional available across the whole range.
No precise word yet on availability, Dell still lists the older models on its website, but when we find out you’ll be sure to find out too.
