22 and 23 inchers added to the range.
A little happy news from the world’s biggest box shifter…
For those of a more 16:9 persuasion (there’s arguments for and against) Dell is this week launching the 22in ‘S2209W’ and 23in ‘S2309W’ a pair of 1080p / Full HD / 1920 x 1080 pixel native resolution LCDs.
The 22 incher is still surrounded in something of a spec fog, but the S2309W will come with a seemingly underwhelming 1,000:1 contrast ratio (though never put any stock in this rating), 5ms response time and 300 cd/m2 brightness. All so very standard, but of course movie junkies should be rather excited by the prospect of 1:1 pixel mapping 1080p flicks on their computers. On the other hand, ”why” movie junkies would be watching 1080p flicks on their computers is another matter entirely (HDMI from PC to TV anyone?)
This aside, the minimalistic new models should make a rather striking cosmetic addition to any desktop with HDMI expected to feature on the S2309W and confusion reigning over whether DVI and / or DisplayPort will be the only options on the cheaper S2209W. That said, they will look identical and you’re getting a lot of horizontal desktop real estate for your money.
Furthermore, given the savings 16:9 panels bring expect them to go easy on your pocket when pricing is finalised over the next few days…
