First look: Futuristic Crossrail train carriages with 4G and Wi-Fi on board

London commutes look like they’re about to get a whole lot better as Transport for London reveals new renders showing the inside of the forthcoming Crossrail train carriages.

The images show the interior of the new carriages, which will feature air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and 4G as standard.

Designed in Britain by Bombardier in Derby, the new trains are designed to increase capacity by 10%.

Aside from the new tech features, the carriages will also use on-board energy management systems to re-generate energy back into the supply when breaking.

They will also feature accessible seating for disabled passengers and on-train passenger information systems will provide real-time travel information.

Crossrail, Europe’s largest infrastructure project, is a planned railway which will stretch from Reading and Heathrow in the west, across to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east.

The new railway will include 100km of track and is due to open in phases, with a December 2019 date set for the project to be fully operational.

The new Bombardier designed trains will start to be introduced in May 2017 on the Liverpool Street to Shenfield stopping service.

The first services through London are scheduled to start in late 2018.
