Could HTC One M7 users get Android 5.1 Lollipop after all?

HTC has offered hope to HTC One M7 owners, upset by the admission the device won’t be updated to the Android 5.1 software

HTC fans sent a barrage of complaints in the direction of the firm’s VP of Product Management Mo Versi after he revealed only the Google Play Edition of the M7 would be updated to the latest version of Lollipop.

As Android 5.1 is largely considered a bug-squishing update, some M7 owners felt they were being left stranded on the buggy Android 5.0 software.

Now, on Friday (via PocketNow), Versi said he had taken heed of the complaints and advised those with the carrier versions of the 2013 handset to stay tuned.

He tweeted: “I heard you all on M7 5.1 for Carrier versions. Many of the fixes are already in our current SW, but understand your concerns. Stay tuned.”

Whether that means HTC now intends to offer Android 5.1 to those on network-bought devices, or whether the firm has something else in mind remains to be seen.

Regardless, it’s good to know HTC (particularly Versi, who is one of the more vocal and approachable mobile execs out there) is actually listening to its customers as it angles for a upgrades to the brand new HTC One M9.

As most handsets arrive on two-year contracts, most of those rocking a HTC One M7 will have a choice to make very soon.

Given Samsung, Moto, LG and not to mention Apple have been at the top of their games in the last few months, it’s probably not wise for HTC to unnecessarily annoy those loyal still packing a One M7.
