Could a new Wi-Fi router steal the show at Google’s Pixel launch?

Google will boost its home networking hardware line-up at its October 4 event with a new router called Google Wifi, a report on Friday has claimed.

AndroidPolice sources say a new $129 (around £100) Google Wifi router will offer longer range connectivity than most off the shelf routers.

According to one source, Google Wifi routers will be capable of linking together to create larger wireless networks.

The sources say it will be a companion device for Amazon Echo-rivalling Google Home device previewed at I/O and scheduled for a further unveiling on October 4.

Those familiar with the situation also claim Google’s new solution will be relatively small and inconspicuous – around the size of an Echo Dot.

How this will gel with the current OnHub router remains unknown, but the sources say it will offer some of the same ‘smart’ features.

The OnHub can prioritize which devices should receive the most bandwidth and benefit from the fastest speeds.

If the report is to be believed, Google’s October 4 event is shaping up to be quite the extravaganza.

We expect the new HTC-made Pixel and Pixel XL phones to make their bow and hear more information concerning the availability of Google Home.

Google’s Daydream VR plans should be further detailed and we might even see a 4K Chromecast dongle.
