Cortana will take the fight to Siri as beta test launches on iOS

Siri won’t be too happy about this one.

Microsoft’s virtual personal assistant Cortana will be made available to iPhone users as part of a beta testing phase.

Microsoft is accepting sign-ups to the iOS beta app but only US and Chinese users can currently join in.

The company has been internally testing the app over the last six months and has now announced that Cortana is available for public testing via an update on the Microsoft Community pages.

Your life is not limited to one device, and neither is your digital assistant,” said the company in the post.

“While there are some features you’ll use on Windows that we don’t (yet) support on iOS phones (like saying “Hey Cortana” to wake her up), we’ve focused on making Cortana on iOS the perfect companion to your Windows experience.”

“Over the coming months, we’ll continue to deliver frequent updates to the app to expand the features and functionality.”

While certain features will be missing from the beta version of the iOS Cortana, the app is expected to be able to carry out core tasks such as sending emails, scheduling events, and search.

Those interested will have to complete a survey before they are given a download link which will be sent out in the coming weeks.
