Cortana is your newest and most useful Skype contact
Microsoft has started rolling out Cortana within its Skype app for iOS and Android.
The personal assistant will offer Skype users smart replies enabling them to continue the chat without typing.
Cortana will also suggest contextual information based on the topic of conversation, like restaurant options and movie reviews.
In a blog post on Monday, Microsoft says Cortana will help users schedule events and set reminders, which will appear on all devices.
The company wrote: “Cortana can also help you organize your day—no need to leave your conversations. Cortana can detect when you’re talking about scheduling events or things you have to do and will recommend setting up a reminder, which you will receive on all your devices that have Cortana enabled. So, whether you’re talking about weekend plans or an important work appointment, nothing will slip through the cracks.”
As part of the rollout, Cortana is now a contact for users within Skype itself.
So folks will be able to chat with the app as they would any other contact.
Cortana will answer questions from the web, give you a weather forecast, directions to a venue or suggest restaurants.
The roll out to all users starts today in the United States, with Microsoft promising a gradual roll out for all users.
