Cortana coming to PC with Windows 10

Cortana is coming to PC with Windows 10, Microsoft has confirmed.

As part of today’s Windows 10 event, Microsoft has revealed its personal digital assistant, Cortana, is coming to your PC this year.

She’ll live in the Start Bar of your Windows 10 PC, allowing you easy access to your personal assistant.

Microsoft reveals that Cortana will learn about you across all devices, thanks to her handy Notebook.

That includes learning that you like sports, getting a daily glance at the top news stories and other interests.

Every time you click on Cortana in the Start Bar, you’ll be presented with the Cortana Home Page – including all the things that she’s learnt about you.

“Having Cortana on your PC is like having another member of the family sitting around and helping you get things done”, explained Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore.

Because she’s making the move to PC, she’s also getting some new unique features that are distinctly for your desktop or laptop.

That means you can use Cortana to search your Windows 10 PC for specific content, including photographs taken within a specific date range, or a selection of PowerPoint slides on a certain topic for example.

She can also take typed commands too, even searching for apps on the Windows Store and working with the apps themselves.

For example, with Xbox Music, you can tell Cortana to “Be quiet”, and she’ll pause the music currently playing.

There’s no word on a Windows 10 release date at present, apart from a loose 2015.
