Convince folks your Apple Watch is an 18K gold Edition for just £250

The Apple Watch Edition starts at £8,000, but if you’re willing to cheat a little bit you can look like the ultimate tech fancy pants for less than a tenth of the cost.

9to5Mac has posted a hands on video of an standard Apple Watch with Link Bracelet, which has been plated in the same 18-carat gold as the luxury version donned by the likes of Kanye West and Beyoncé.

The WatchPlate firm is one of many offering the service, charging $399 (around £258) to facilitate regular Apple Watch owners’ desires to have their smart timepiece gilded in yellow or rose gold.

Patrons will have to send their Apple Watch away via FedEx but the turnaround is only four business days.

The results, as the report points out, appear to be pretty attractive and largely indistinguishable from the real thing.

A couple of months ago a host of companies reached out to TrustedReviews confirming they’d be offering such gilding services, including UK-based GoldGenie. That firm was offering a 24-karat plating for £1,250, plus VAT.

This is the first third-party plating we’ve seen and it comes in far cheaper than the British company’s offering. However, if you’re thinking of going for gold with your standard Apple Watch, you can kiss goodbye to the manufacturer’s warranty.
