Chrome for iOS update offers Material Design, Handoff support

A new version of the Google Chrome web browser has arrived on the App Store, bringing a new look and support for one of iOS 8’s best new features.

The free app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch has been given a Material Design overhaul, a la the Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system.

Users will now get the benefit of Google’s “bold graphics, fluid motion, and tactile surfaces,” within the application.

Alongside the Material Design and an iOS 8-friendly optimisation (to account for the larger iPhones) Google is also adding Handoff support.

The feature, which is part of the recently released iOS/Mac OS X Continuity platform, which makes it easier for iOS users to pass content to their Mac and vice versa.

In this case, it’ll allow Chrome users on iOS to access open tabs using the default browser on a Mac running OS X Yosemite. This could be handy if viewing a webpage you’d like to study in more detail on a larger screen.

The new Chrome app, which is already available for Android downers, can be downloaded by iOS users now. The company has already boosted apps like its standalone Google Search and Google Maps as it sets about spreading its new design lingo to as many of its platforms as possible.
