Christian Bale in talks to play Steve Jobs in Danny Boyle film

The actor was previously first choice to play Jobs when David Fincher was lined up to direct the biopic. Fincher pulled out, and the studio eyed up Leonardo DiCaprio, who subsequently bowed out.

Now the film is being helmed by Danny Boyle, and Bale is in talks to take the lead role, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

But even if he does decide to step into Jobs’ New Balance trainers, it will be a while before we see the film. Bale will reportedly play detective Travis McGee in The Deep Blue Goodbye first.

The film still doesn’t have a title, but we do know it has been adapted from Walter Isaacson’s bestselling biography. Aaron Sorkin has written the screenplay.

Sorkin has previous when it comes to putting tech firms on the big screen. He won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for The Social Network, which focussed on the origins of Facebook.

Sony optioned the rights to Walter Isaacson’s book back in 2011. The film is reported to play out in three 30-minute realtime scenes, each backstage before a major Apple product announcement.

David Fincher left the project due to compensation and control issues. Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Bradley Cooper have also been mentioned as potentials to play the iconic Jobs.

Job’s life has been committed to film once already, in the Ashton Kutcher-starring Jobs. That film charted the rise of Apple, though it was panned by the critics and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.
