CES 2015: Seagate shows off super-thin hard drive

Seagate has unveiled a mega-svelte hard disk drive that measures up at just 7mm thickness.

The ‘Seven’ storage unit is so thin, you’d be forgiven for mistaking it for an iPhone 6, which itself measures just 6.9mm.

The new storage fare is part of Seagate’s attempt to sex up its products, with the Seagate Seven boasting an all-steel enclosure.

It also weighs in under 100g, making it one of the least cumbersome portable hard drives on the market.

In terms of specs, you’re looking at a 500GB storage capacity, with connection and power coming courtesy of a ‘premium’ braided USB 3.0 cable.

It also comes with Seagate Dashboard software loaded onto the device, offering automatic back-up for computers, as well as Android and iOS mobile devices.

What’s more, Seagate is marking up its new kit at $99.95 (around £65), which sounds like bargain bucks for such an attractive gadget.

Seagate also used the occasion to show off its new Wireless drive. The 500GB Wireless drive lets nearby devices access stored data over a built-in Wi-Fi connection, eschewing the need for external connections.

It also has a battery life of six hours, and is good to stream files to three devices at once via the Seagate Media mobile app.

It’s available in blue, green, grey, red, and white colours, makes use of USB 2.0 connectivity, and weighs just 281 grams.
