Cashew is a smart wallet with a built-in fingerprint scanner

We’ve seen smart wallets before, but usually they just involve syncing to your phone so you can locate it using an app. Cashew adds a rather cool feature.

It has a fingerprint sensor built in. So just like your phone, no one will be able to access it if they don’t have your fingerprint. Obviously how useful this is comes down to how good the electronic lock is, and whether it can withstand the best efforts of some determined thieves.

You can store up to 20 fingerprints, so you can grant a select few people access to your receipts and library card.

It syncs to your phone over Bluetooth. Using the app, you can be notified if you leave your wallet behind, and it’ll locate it on a map. Handy!

You’ll also be notified if someone tries to tamper with the electronic latch.

Sure your wallet is somewhere nearby, but not sure exactly where? You can make it ring using the ‘Buzz my Cashew’ feature. It’s just like ringing your phone.

It features a rechargeable battery, and should only need juicing up every nine months or so. So you won’t be constantly plugging in your wallet.

It’s raised over $13,000 of a $40,000 goal and still has 28 days to go. Pledge $115 (£80) and it can be yours on an early bird. (The usual price is $200 (£138).) If successful, it’ll ship in October.
