With smartphone cameras getting ever better, the day of budget compact point-and-shoot cameras could be numbered, but Canon is none-the-less refreshing its PowerShot A-Series with six new models.

Canon PowerShot A4000 IS

First up is the A400 which is the flagship camera of the range, featuring a 16 megapixel sensor, the DIGIC 4 processing engine, a 3in LCD screen and the ability to shoot 720p video. Setting it apart from the other cameras in the range is the 28mm wide-angle lens with 8x optical zoom. It also comes with Canon’s proprietary Intelligent IS (Image Stabilisation) technology.
