Canon’s EOS 6D is said to be the smallest and lightest full-frame DSLR

Canon has revealed its new EOS 6D DSLR, aimed at “serious photography enthusiasts.”

The company says it’s currently the world’s lightest interchangeable lens camera to feature a full-frame CMOS sensor. For this reason its main target market consists of  travel, portrait and landscape photographers.

It’s also the first EOS camera to include GPS and Wi-Fi connectivity for geotagging and wirelessly transferring pictures to a computer, mobile device or the internet, or sharing them on a DLNA-equipped smart TV.

Inside is a newly designed 20.2-megapixel CMOS full-frame sensor. The EOS 6D has a native ISO range of ISO 100-25,600 (extendible to 50-102,400) for better low light performance.

Canon says that its new 11-point AF system also “offers the strongest low light performance of any Canon AF system to date. With focusing down to EV-3, the equivalent of moonlight, subjects remain in-focus in even the most challenging lighting conditions.”

As expected, the Canon EOS 6D is compatible with Canon’s EF lenses, with models available from 8mm to 800mm. The camera adds DIGIC 5 image processing, automatic modes, various shooting features (including a single axis electronic level for lining up the horizon) and full manual controls. It also supports Full HD video recording at 29.97, 25 and 23.976 fps.

The Multiple Exposures mode enables photographers to combine up to nine separate exposures into a single image in-camera. There’s also a silent drive mode.

The body measures 144.5 x 110.5 x 71.2mm and weighs 770g. It has a dust and drip-proof, part-magnesium bod and a 7.7cm (3in) Clear View LCD touchscreen display.
