Canon has unveiled a new top-end camera aimed at professional photographers, the 1D X Mark II.
At first glance, the Canon EOS-1D X Mark II is much the same as the famous original, which is more than three years old now. It has a familiar square design and much the same extensive manual layout.
However, it has a new new 20.2-megapixel full frame CMOS sensor (up from 18.1-megapixel), a dual DIGIC 6+ image processor, a super-fast new Al Servo AF III+ autofocus system, and 4K 60p video shooting capability.
Other additions include build-in GPS, a CFast 2.0 card slot, and a sharper and newly touch-sensitive 1.62 million-dot 3.2-inch LCD screen.
But the improvements here are really all about the speed and precision of the shooting experience. It can shoot up to 14 fps with autofocus and 16 fps in Live View mode.

While it has a familiar-looking 61-point autofocus set-up, 41 of those are cross-type and all of them are now effective up to f/8. That’s backed by the aforementioned Ai Servo III+ system, which improves tracking sensitivity in scenes where sudden subject movement is a possibility. Canon uses the example of wildlife photography.
Expect the body-only price of the Canon EOS-1D X Mark II to cost £5,199 when it hits the UK in May. Like we said, it’s for professionals.
