Canon has unveiled the EOS-1D C. The high-end digital SLR has an 18.2-megapixel sensor and can record video in 4k resolution. 1080p is nothing these days, folks.

You won't get such high-end features on the cheap, though. The Canon EOS-1D C costs $15,000, which equates to just under £9,500 by today's exchange rates. Using the DIGIX 5-plus image processing engine, the camera can shoot at speeds of up to 12 images per second, or 14 a second when papping in the super high speed JPEG mode. Its ISO range tops-out at 25,600 for video, and 51,200 for stills.Canon EOS-1D C

When shooting 4k video, which is 4,096 x 2,160 pixels for the less numbers-obsessed among you, the EOS-1D C uses just a part of its sensor - resulting in an APS-H 1.33x image magnification. This ensures the best possible image quality, ruling-out having to process or resize information captured by the sensor.

4k video is shot using 8-bit motion JPEG compression, and is harvested at 24p. Step down to common-as-muck 1080p resolution and you're given more control over the shooting speed - with 24, 25, 30, 50 and 60p frame rate options. It will also shoot video at 2k (2,048 x 1,920) resolution.

The Canon EOS-1F C boasts a 61-point autofocus system, an integrated HDMI for outputting Full HD video and a 1,040k-dot 3.2in display. The camera uses CF cards.

The Canon EOS-1D C will be available from October 2012.
