PowerShot SX150 IS – Canon’s Latest Superzoom

Along with announcing a couple of new IXUS models this

morning, Canon also announced the latest in its superzoom range, the PowerShot

SX150 IS.

The new camera is a update to the Powershot IXUS 130 IS we looked at earlier this year but on the surface of it,

there is little to entice the SX130 owner to upgrade.

The PowerShot SX150 IS keeps the same 12x optical zoom lens

as its predecessor which is equivalent to 28-336mm in 35mm format. There is

however a boost to the CCD sensor, now featuring 14.1 megapixels compared to

12.1 megapixel on the older model.

Also new is the Intelligent IS which will automatically

identify what sort of stabilisation needs to be applied to the scene: either

normal, macro, shooting while walking, using a tripod, panning or shooting with

telephoto zoom.

Also remaining from the previous model, is the 3in LCD

screen on the rear with all the usual shooting modes, though a new Discreet

mode has been added which shuts off all noises and lights, which could be handy

for a little snooping.

The PowerShot SX150 IS will be available from September

2011, priced at £199 and will be available in black, red or silver.
