The 4.5-stop optical Image Stabilizer has also been enhanced with new Intelligent IS technology that detects the shooting situation and automatically applies the most appropriate image stabilisation settings from seven possible modes.

The HS system seen on previous Canon models is also present here and it combines a high-sensitivity back-illuminated 12.1 megapixel CMOS sensor with the Digic 5 processor for better low-noise images. The Digic 5 processor promises a huge 75 per cent less noise at all ISO levels that the predecessor.
