The Canon 7D Mark II appears to have leaked days ahead of its big Photokina reveal.
The original Canon EOS 7D was announced five years ago, and has gone on to be a firm favourite with professional photographers the world over to this day.
It’s about time we saw a new model released, and sure enough, Canon looks set to oblige at this year’s Photokina event. The above image has appeared on Japanese website Digicame-info, alongside some initial specifications.
While the picture doesn’t reveal any startling new additions to the 7D’s rugged, dust-proof external design, the specs show that there’ll be some significant changes internally. The Canon 7D Mark II will feature a new 20.2-megapixel CMOS sensor, a 65-point autofocus system, and dual DIGIC 6 image processors.
It’ll be capable of continuous shooting at 10fps, and there’ll be a new RGB and IR 150,000-pixel metering sensor. Full 1080p video at 60fps appears to be supported, and it’ll come with built-in GPS.
It appears to be a camera free of gimmicks, which is exactly what fans of the Canon EOS 7D would have hoped for. Now all that remains to be seen is if the Mark II’s performance and image quality can exceed that of the original.
Photokina is the world’s biggest photography technology show, and it’s made all the more special by the fact that it only takes place ever two years. It’s set to take place in Cologne from September 16 to 21, and we’re expecting plenty of major announcements from the big players in the field.
