Cambridge Analytica, a data analytics firm that promises to “change audience behavior”, has found itself at the centre of a controversy about its role in both the Brexit vote and the 2016 American elections.

A new investigative report produced by Channel 4 has shed uncomfortable light on the company’s practices, alongside articles published by The Guardian and Observer. Cambridge Analytica had reportedly trying to stop the segment from going out, but it aired as planned on Monday 19 March.

At the centre of the controversy are questions surrounding the amount of Facebook user data the firm had access to, the methods by which it acquired this data, and whether Russia had any part to play in its work.
