Developer Infinity Ward has denied reports of a 2013 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 release, taking to Twitter to refute claims by a voice actor that work has already started on the next-generation first-person shooter.
Ahead of the imminent Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 release date, a voice actor yesterday seemingly confirmed next year’s COD title would fall under the header of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 with Infinity Ward, expected developer of the FPS offering proving quick to deny the reports.
Tipped to be a direct follow-on from the 2011 released, record breaking Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the rumoured Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 release was reported to already in the works with developer Infinity Ward piecing together the next instalment to the COD sub franchise.
The claimed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 title, which has been reported by gaming blog ThisisXbox, was prematurely unveiled by repeated Call of Duty voice actor, Billy Murray (Captain Price) who, discussing the upcoming project on a recent flight, reportedly stated that the next-gen release would be a direct sequel.
Letting slip on the 2013 Call of Duty release, Murray is quoted as stating: "On Monday I am off to meet Infinity Ward about the next game, Modern Warfare 4, I'm doing work on the sequel to Modern Warfare 3, it carries straight on and I only ever appear in the Modern Warfare games..."
Responding via the company's officially Twitter feed, however, an Infinity Ward spokesperson has denied the claims stating “Interesting news today, but it’s not true. We’ve not talked with any voice actors, so all news is speculation.”
Whilst any expected Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 release date is not expected until November 2013, the eagerly awaited Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 release is now just days away with the futuristic first-person shooter to land for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC gamers on November 13th. Set in Los Angeles in the year 2025, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 brings a new level of war based antics to the globally dominant COD series with a fleet of technologically advanced weapons and vehicles at gamers’ disposals.
With little currently known about any planned Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 release, it is expected that E3 2013 will see the unveiling of either the Xbox 720 or Sony PlayStation 4 ahead of a pre-Christmas 2013 release. If the much anticipated console launches come to fruition, it is believed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 could be one of the first title for the next-gen gamer.
