Call of Duty: Ghosts given world premiere at Xbox reveal

An in-depth developer talk for Call of Duty: Ghosts has been shown at the Xbox One reveal this evening.

Activision has confirmed that Call of Duty: Ghosts will feature “a whole new story with brand new characters in a whole new world”.

The developer says it will have an all-new engine that provides more graphic fidelity and a more “immersive” experience for gamers.

Call of Duty: Ghosts Storyline
Activision aims to create a cast of characters that players feel more emotionally connected to, helped by writer Stephen Gaghan of Syriana and Traffic fame.

The game is set after a “massive event”, where the US is severely wounded. The soldiers you play as are the Ghosts, “you are the underdog fighting back against a superior force.” The squad is the US special forces grouped together, “fighting for something that can’t be killed”.

“Soldiers stand against their enemy. The Ghosts haunt them,” said the worldwide premier of the game during the Xbox One reveal. Activision says the Ghosts are superior fighting force “like the Spartans”.

The new addition to the Ghosts squad is a dog that sniffs out explosives and helps the team throughout battle and the storyline itself.

Call of Duty: Ghosts Engine
The Xbox One Call of Duty: Ghosts will be introduce new next-generation characters and weapons, never seen before in a Call of Duty title.

A new Call of Duty engine has been built with Sub-D, which allows more curvature on the landscape and weapons, especially on the guns at close range. Sub-D enables Activision to bring more graphic fidelity in Call of Duty: Ghosts.

The Call of Duty: Ghosts developers say “gameplay drives tech” and that has enabled them to develop a better, more realistic graphics engine. The key word for which they say is “immersion”.

Players’ characters will automatically leap over any cover in their way and will now be able to lean in and out of cover. The new Call of Duty: Ghosts engine will have “fluid dynamics”, “interactive smoke” and have new AI functionality including fish that move out of the way when the player nears them.

Call of Duty: Ghosts Multiplayer
Call of Duty: Ghosts multiplayer will be a completely revamped experience and introduce dynamic maps that are affected by large scale events like earthquakes and floods, but also by smaller player-driven events too such as buildings collapsing and door being shot at.

Activision claims it is a “new dynamic experience”, which sounds much more like Battlefield 3 to us.

The Call of Duty:L Ghosts multiplayer will also introduce a huge amount of character customisations, including the ability to modify weapons, clothing, faces and more.

The dynamic maps and character customisation are “just two fo the new features coming to the next-generation of Call of Duty multiplayer.”

“It’s the best Call of Duty game we’ve ever made.”
