The forthcoming Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare video game will not launch on the Nintendo Wii U console, developer Sledgehammer revealed on Wednesday.
In a blow to owners of Nintendo’s next-gen console, Sledgehammer co-founder Michael Condrey claimed CoD publisher Activision had opted not to pursue a version for the Wii U.
Instead the developer has been charged with creating versions for the Xbox One, Sony PS4 and PC.
“No, no WiiU,” Condrey tweeted in response to a fan questions. “That was an Activision decision. We are focused on XboxOne, PS4, and PC.”
The decision comes as somewhat of a surprise considering the previous two Call of Duty iterations, Black Ops II and Ghosts, had appeared on the Wii U. Given the console’s relative revival since the launch of Mario Kart 8 earlier this year, it’s unclear why Activision has decided to eschew the Wii U this time around.
Advanced Warfare will also arrive on the Sony PS3 and the Xbox 360, but those versions are being developed by High Moon Studios rather than Sledgehammer.
The game, which stars Kevin Spacey as one of the lead characters, will arrive on November 4 this year.
“With nations brought to their knees by a global terrorist attack, the world turns to Atlas, the largest private military company on the planet. Power, though, changes everything,” a synopsis for the game’s plot reads.
