The future is...fruity?

Forget war reporting or citizen journalism; Facebook Live has already found its hero stream, and it’s absolutely ridiculous.

Buzzfeed smashed Facebook Live records on Friday with a 45-minute stream titled ‘Watch us explode this watermelon one rubber band at a time!”.

The livestream saw two Buzzfeed employees wrapping rubber bands around a watermelon until it popped. Because why not?

Unsurprisingly, it managed to garner the attention of an incredible 807,000 concurrent viewers, and has since been viewed over 8.5 million times.

Facebook Live launched last summer, giving media platforms and high-profile figures a chance to stream interesting content live as it happens.

Earlier this week, Facebook began opening up the service to the general public, adding a dedicated ‘Live’ tab on its Android and iOS apps.
