Bungie teases special Destiny Beta event on July 26

Bungie has teased that there will be a huge, special Destiny beta event on July 26 that will “permanently” affect your Guardian.

The first timed event for the Destiny beta was The Iron Banner on Saturday July 19, but developer Bungie has teased there’s something even better coming next weekend.

The Destiny beta is going offline for two days of maintenance on July 21-22 (today and tomorrow), partly to prepare for the big event on Saturday.

In the latest Bungie blog post, the developer was asked whether anything would be altered following the maintenance period.

“Yes – especially on the 26th. You want to be there for that day,” came the reply. “Report for Beta testing duty at 2PM Pacific [10pm GMT]. Your rewards will be handsome and permanent.”

There have been reports that the progress made in the Destiny Beta will transfer to the full game when it launches on September 9, so this could be the day we find out just how much you’ll get to take with you.

Bungie’s previous limited timed event was called The Iron Banner, which was only available for two hours on Saturday July 19.

Players were asked to bring their “absolute best gear” for the event, which was accessible through some new doors in The Tower, as Bungie turned on Level Advantages that causes Guardian’s attack and defence ratings help or hinder you in matches.

The Alpha map Rusted Lands also made a re-appearance, while the new Blind Watch map took players to Mars for the first time.

Sadly, it looks like The Iron Banner was the only way to access those maps in the beta, so they’ve got nothing to do with the July 26 event either.

“If you missed the Iron Banner, fear not, new surprises await in the Beta”, teased Bungie again.

We’ve reached out to see if we can get any more information on the upcoming event and will keep you posted if there’s any update.

Until then, you might want to put 10pm on July 26 in your diary for a Destiny session.
