Bungie confirms Destiny game will land for PS4

Destiny, the eagerly awaited Halo follow-on from developer Bungie will launch for the upcoming PS4 console, the game’s makers have revealed.

Speaking at last night’s PS4 launch event, Bungie has revealed that its futuristic first-person shooter, Destiny, will be released for the PS4 when the title first goes on sale later this year.

One of the most eagerly awaited games confirmed for launch, alongside the likes of GTA 5, Bungie has revealed that, with a PS4 release date confirmed for the 2013 holiday season, the Destiny PS4 title will be one of the first games available for the next-gen console.

“After Halo, we asked ourselves the question: what’s next? What’s worth doing?” a member of the Bungie development team said at the New York based PS4 launch. “Destiny is an ambitions project, what we’re calling the world’s first shared-world shooter.”

With Bungie famed for creating the globally dominant Halo franchise, a series of titles exclusive to Microsoft’s Xbox consoles, the Destiny PS4 release marks the developer’s return to the Sony’s rapidly evolving gaming platform.

“We’re excited to be a part in bringing the next generation of great games to the next great gaming platform from Sony… But there is one developer in particular who we think has been absent from the PlayStation nation for too long now,” Sony announced in reference to Bungie.

With the developer offering the most detailed look at the upcoming Destiny release yet, a title that will see gamers transported to a visually stunning post-apocalyptic futuristic world overrun with troubling alien species.

“Destiny is an online, connected experience. Like the PlayStation 4, Destiny lets you enjoy your content from multiple devices,” an official Bungie spokesperson said.

Although a precise Destiny PS4 release date has yet to be confirmed, Bungie has revealed that the game will also launch for existing PS3 gamers. A sure fire point of contention with the newly unveiled PS4, Sony has confirmed that the console will not feature back compatibility with PS3 titles.

The developer added: “Destiny is going to be amazing on PlayStation 4, it’s a great piece of gear. We can’t wait to see what PlayStation fans do when they set foot into our world for the first time.”

Will the likes of Destiny on the list of launch titles tempt you into splashing out on the Sony PS4 in time for its holiday season arrival? Let us know via the TrustedReviews a twitter and Facebook feeds or through the comment boxes below.
