Samsung has announced that its new Galaxy Tab A will be coming to the UK, and will go on sale next week.

The Tab A launches in the UK on May 21, landing as a 9.7-inch Android tablet. The device is a streamlined affair, weighing just 450g and rocking a 7.5mm profile.

The 9.7-inch display offers a 768 x 1024 pixel resolution, configured with a 4:3 aspect ratio.

In terms of processing heft, you’ll get a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 410 processor, paired with 1.5GB (or 2GB) of RAM and 16GB of flash storage.

Snapping potential is firmly in the mid-range, with a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing shooter.

All this is powered by a 6,000mAh battery; we’ll have to wait for a review unit to see how this holds up under pressure.

The Galaxy Tab A runs on Google’s latest Android 5.0 Lollipop OS, which brings 64-bit chip support, improved battery life, and the flatter, cleaner ‘material design’ UI.

There will be three different versions of the Tab A available to buy in the UK. These are the Galaxy Tab A (Wi-Fi and LTE), the Galaxy Tab A with S-Pen (Wi-Fi), and the standalone Wi-Fi Galaxy Tab A.

The base model is expected to cost €299, which translates to roughly £216, while the LTE or S-Pen versions are tipped at a €349 (£253) price point.

Of course, Samsung is also expected to unveil the higher-end Galaxy Tab S2 in the coming weeks, so fans of more premium fare might want to hold out on splashing their cash.

This tablet's price seems far too high. If the tablet had a similar resolution to the iPad Air (considering the screen size, that's what I was been expecting), then it would make sense.
