BT Smart Hub router promises UK’s fastest Wi-Fi

BT has announced the launch of a new Wi-Fi router with a number of impressive features.

The BT Smart Hub may have an unfamiliar name, but it’s essentially the follow-up to the BT Home Hub 5. So what prompted the name change – as well as its considerably bigger design?

BT says that the Smart Hub offers “the UK’s most powerful Wi-Fi signal” compared to the routers offered by other UK broadband companies. Of course, there are faster examples out there for you to buy, but very few people stray from the router provided by their broadband supplier.

The Smart Hub achieves this increased performance by stuffing seven antennas into its top section, which provides a much bigger wireless range (as long as 500 metres) as well as explaining the device’s physical expansion.

Of course, the router is called the Smart Hub, not the Power Hub, and they key here is in the way it intelligently selects the best channel for performance at any time. It supports both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies, which are unified so you don’t have to access them separately.

The new BT Smart Hub will launch this summer, and will be free to new BT Infinity broadband subscribers, as well as existing customers who sign up to a new contract. Alternatively, existing customers can pay a one-off £50 fee for an upgrade. Either way, tou can register your interest with BT now.
