BT Cloud relaunches with Chromecast support

BT has marked the two year anniversary of its cloud storage and backup service by adding support for Google’s media streaming stick, Chromecast.

The service, which is only available to BT Infinity and Broadband customers, works across PC, Mac, iOS, Android and Windows 8 devices as a universal option for content storage.

Users get either 5GB or 50GB of storage to play with depending on which broadband package they’re signed up to. As well as being free to all subscribers, the the data used does not eat into your broadband usage.

If you do want more, you can grab an extra 50GB for an £3 a month or 500GB, which will add an extra £9 on your monthly bill.

The BT cloud app is free to download and offers all the kind of features you”d expect from a cloud storage locker, like the ability to sort files into folders and activate automated syncing.

If the recent iCloud and Dropbox hacks have put you off moving things into the cloud, BT’s service is protected by EU privacy laws. That means BT cannot snoop on your content and it remains private unless you’re sharing photos or your videos with friends and family.

The headline-grabbing feature is the addition of Chromecast support. From the BT Cloud app you can send content like videos, photos to your HDTV as long as Google’s streaming stick is plugged in of course.

If you need to find out about your eligibility to use the service, you can head over to the BT Cloud homepage for more information.
