BT And Heineken Offering Free Pub WiFi

Are you tired of having to use your own data plan to post

drunken pictures of yourself on Twitter while in the pub? Well, BT may have a solution.

BT has just announced a partnership with Heineken to bring

fast WiFi to almost 100 bars and pubs in London with plans to extend the

wireless internet service to a further 200 pubs across the UK by the end of

2012.

The addition of the 100 pubs will take the number of BT

hotspots around the UK to over three million. BT say customers accessing the WiFi

in these pubs will be initially redirected to “a special area of the internet” called the

Heineken Hub, which will have exclusive content from the Independent spin-off

newspaper, i.

Access to the WiFi networks will be completely free to BT

Broadband customers, but if you’re not a BT customer, fear not as users of “iPads,

iPhones, iTouch [we presume BT means iPod touch], Android, Samsung and

Blackberry devices and smartphones” will also get access through other BT

partnership agreements.

Users will get access to exclusive, location-specific

content including news, views, features, business, culture and sports. It is

the first time this content has been available online and it will be updated

daily.

Chris Bruce, CEO, BT Openzone, said: “Using Wi-Fi to deliver

free and exclusive content, Heineken is engaging and exciting pub goers and

will undoubtedly increase business. It’s an exciting time to be involved in

hospitality marketing.”
