BT adding Netflix to YouView TV boxes
BT has confirmed that it is to add Netflix to its YouView TV box offering.
During the company’s latest quarterly earnings report, BT slipped in the fact that it had finally come to an agreement to integrate Netflix into its service.
The company announced that “we have entered into a partnership with Netflix that will allow our customers to sign up for Netflix alongside our other products and services, with the added convenience of paying on one bill directly through BT.”
Yes, it seems as if you’ll be able to essentially sign up to Netflix as part of your BT bill. Handy.
Of course, the company is yet to reveal the fine print on this deal, such as any package requirements. For example, will you need to be a BT Infinity customer to use Netflix in this way?
Also, this is as much of a catch-up move as anything else, as Virgin Media customers have been able to access Netflix in a similar way through their TiVo boxes for almost a year now.
Otherwise, BT appears to be doing very well. The company added 38,000 TV customers in the latest quarter, and revealed that its still-fresh BT Sport offering was on the rise. The audience for Premier League football on the service has risen by 45 percent on average for this, its second season.
Elsewhere, BT Wi-Fi usage has doubled since this time last year, and the company’s fibre optic service now reaches 21 million premises, with a third of its broadband customers now getting superheats speeds.
