German giant Bosch has entered the increasingly crowded smart heating market with its own phone controlled system, the Bosch Remote Room Controller (RRC)
Announced at CES 2015 today, the Bosch Remote Room Controller controls heating and hot water using Wi-Fi and your mobile phone.
The key feature here is its ability to finely control compatible boilers from Bosch and Buderus, though it does mean it's limited to boilers provided by the two brands.
As Bosch explains: "Unlike other smart room temperature controllers on the market, the RRC is the only thermostat of its type that can adjust the flow temperature of the boiler to the minimum level required to enhance condensing operation, yet still maintain the required room comfort level."
The Bosch RRC also features a weather compensation system, using online weather updates and an optional external sensor that "automatically adjusts the home’s heating to the most economical level, increasing the temperature of the boiler output when the weather gets cold, and decreasing it when it warms up again."
The app, which allows for up to four users to access the system, also includes detailed information on gas consumption for heating and hot water to help users manage their bills.
“Web enabled smart controllers are a crucial part of today’s advanced heating systems,” said Richard A. Soper, President of Bosch Thermotechnology North America.
“We responded to the need to have such a controller to interact with our boilers with this innovative solution, utilizing our extensive experience in the heating and hot water business. As building regulations are tightening, stipulating the need for more accurate time and temperature control, an interface product like the RCC is an exciting addition to our product portfolio.”
