BOLDR Voyage is a retro-styled analogue ‘clever watch’

Do touchscreens really work on smartwatches? Or are they too small? BOLDR certainly thinks they are, and has come up with a different approach: a clever watch.

Instead of sporting a touchscreen, the BOLDR Voyage has an analogue, aviator-style dial, making it look properly retro. But on the inside, it’s smart as anything.

It syncs to your phone via Bluetooth, just like any other smartwatch. Then you can control it using the app. One neat feature is the GMT function, which lets you set a second timezone. Travel to New York, say, and you can select it as a second timezone in the app. Press and hold the top right button, and an LED will flash on the watch face, telling you the time in New York. It’s a great melding of analogue and digital.

There’s a built-in pedometer, and you read your progress by the number dials lighting up. It’s powered by a watch battery, which will only need replacing every four to six months.

Notifications and message and call alerts show up thanks to LEDs and a vibration motor. You can customise the alerts in the app, so you’ll never miss a thing.

It can let you know when you leave your phone behind, and can double as a remote camera shutter button. It comes in six colours, and you can swap the straps in seconds thanks to the quick release mechanism.

It’s passed its funding goal and will ship in April.
