Pictures of the BlackBerry R10 have leaked online, revealing the handset to be a more affordable version of the BB10 BlackBerry Q10 handset.
Thought to be a mid-tier or entry-level version of the physical QWERTY keyboard wielding BlackBerry Q10 handset, the BlackBerry R10 has leaked online with a bunch of pictures and a few specs details to boot.
The BlackBerry R10 could have the same 720p HD 3.1-inch screen as the BlackBerry Q10, but lower the rear camera resolution to 5-megapixels. Potentially having the same dual-core 1.5GHz processor with 2GB of RAM as its high-end BB10 brother, the BlackBerry R10 will play host to a reduced battery of 1800mAh and have 8GB of storage in comparison to the Q10’s 16GB.
Originally leaking in red and white colour varieties, BlackBerry will probably launch the BlackBerry R10 in several body options. The handset also features a glossy finish, similar to the BlackBerry Curve smartphones such as the BlackBerry Curve 9360.
Reports suggest the BlackBerry R10 release date will be some time in Q3 2013, priced between £300 – $400 (£193 – £257) SIM free.
In March, BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins confirmed that Blackberry will release more BB10 handsets by Christmas. Approximately three or four new BB10 devices would be launched by the Canadian company by the end of the year, with the ultimate goal to be able to offer three tiers of smartphones running BB10.
Heins also said any new handsets launching with BB10 could retina the same screen size as the BlackBerry Z10 or BlackBerry Q10 to keep the BB10 range looking aesthetically similar. This bodes well for the authenticity of the leaked BlackBerry R10.
The second BB10 OS device alongside the BlackBerry Z10, the BlackBerry Q10 is already “selling extremely well” in the UK and Canada since its launch on April 26.
Appealing to the loyal established BlackBerry user base, the BlackBerry Q10 is the first BB10 handset to have the traditional physical QWERTY keyboard that appeals to business consumers.
If BlackBerry can launch the BlackBerry R10 with an affordable price tag it could boost handset sales, especially with business users.
