BlackBerry Mercedes phone a potential follow-on to the Porsche Design BlackBerry P9981
BlackBerry could be working on a BlackBerry Mercedes phone, with the automotive branded handset a potential follow-on to the Porsche Design BlackBerry P9981.
Although failing to openly confirm such a device, BlackBerry has hinted that a BlackBerry Mercedes phone could be in the works, with the Canadian manufacturer confirming it is working with the automotive giant on “future products.”
A potential extension of BlackBerry’s sponsorship of the Mercedes AMG Formula 1 team, any BlackBerry Mercedes phone is likely to follow the path of the recent Porsche Design BlackBerry P9981, and face a limited production run with premium components and design traits resulting in a considerably priced handset.
“I’m hearing some things from our guys about future products, of how we are going to technically work with the guys at Mercedes on certain things,” Oliver Pilgerstorfer, Director of Corporate Communications for BlackBerry’s EMEA sector said speaking at BlackBerry Live. He added: “I haven’t got anything to unveil today but it sounds like such an interesting area.”
Remaining coy on the matter without ever denying the potential of a BlackBerry Mercedes phone, Todd Wood, Senior Vice President of Design at BlackBerry told TrustedReviews that when it comes to such projects, the company has a “never say never” attitude.
He added: “I think we want to be friends with everybody so when it comes to picking and choosing partners we just have to find the right balance.
“Just as we work with brands and personalities, that spirit of collaboration could play out in other ways as well.”
We will keep you posted on any further announcements of a BlackBerry Mercedes phone, if and when the handset comes to light.
