BlackBerry has put its new Leap smartphone up for pre-order in selected regions – including the UK.
The BlackBerry Leap was announced at MWC 2015 at the beginning of March. It’s not your typical BlackBerry device, with an all-touch 5-inch display and an affordable price tag.
It’s actually been aimed at young, up-and-coming go-getters rather than the usual besuited business types you might see surgically attached to their physical keyboards of a weekday.
Now you can pre-order the BlackBerry Leap through the BlackBerry Store. It costs just £199, and it will ship on April 24.
As you might expect given that low price tag, the BlackBerry Leap is a decidedly mid-range smartphone. Its 5-inch LCD display has a modest 720p resolution (that’s 294ppi, pixel-watchers), while it’s powered by a pretty dusty dual-core Snapdragon S4 Plus CPU and 2GB of RAM.

The Leap comes with 16GB of internal storage (backed up by a microSD slot) and an 8-megapixel rear camera, too. One of the biggest boasts for the BlackBerry Leap, however, is that its its 2,800mAh battery can last through 25 hours of heavy usage.
Naturally, the BlackBerry Leap runs on BlackBerry 10 OS, which now grants access to Android apps, as well as BlackBerry Assistant – the company’s answer to Siri, Cortana, and Google Now.
