Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vine, Kindle, Skype, Flipboard and Foursquare are just some of the chart-topping apps that have already been fully-optimised for Apple's new iOS 7 software.

As of around 6pm on Tuesday evening, existing iPhone, iPad and iPod touch owners were able to upgrade to the re-imagined version of Apple's mobile software.

Now to be left out, developers are keen to ensure their updated apps are available to download as soon as iOS device owners finish installing the new software on Wednesday evening and compatible with the iPhone 5S' new 64-bit A7 processor when that device launches on Friday.

As well as extending their compatibility for the new device, most of the updates have undergone visual tweaks to fit in with the flatter, simpler iOS interface, while  alsofolding in more incremental updates.

Twitter's update brings a redesigned app to suit the iOS 7 design language, while Amazon's Kindle app offers a "flatter style controls create a sharp, new customer experience."

Facebook's iOS app has also adopted the flat plan, so to speak and also integrates a new tabbed navigation bar at the food of the screen, allowing users to easily skip between News Feed, Requests, Messages, Notifications and More.

The app's product manager Mike Sharon told CNET: "One of the recommendations from the iOS team [is] to let the content come first, and make sure that people are focusing on the content and not necessarily on some crazy gradient."

An update to Pocket for iOS will ensure articles sync automatically in the background, while popular note-taking app Evernote has a cleaner new interface.

Also among the iOS 7 compatible apps already available to download are Gmail, Google Search, Google Chrome, Google Drive, PayPal eBay, Shazam, Yahoo, Mailbox, Pandora, and Fandando.  That's just at the time of writing, there's likely to be way more on the way before the iPhone 5S goes on sale on Friday.

Just yesterday Apple began offering users the 'last compatible version' of apps will be offered to users who aren't upgrading to iOS 7.
