Bethesda has opened a new development studio

Bethesda Game Studios has announced that it has opened a new development studio in Montreal, Quebec.

The new studio will help Bethesda “expand its development capabilities” on PC, console and mobile.

Bethesda’s Quebec-based studio currently has a team consisting of 40 experienced developers, who are led by studio director Yves Lachance.

Lachance was the project lead on Fallout Shelter, so this new studio may be placing a larger focus on smaller mobile titles, instead of console and PC gaming.

However, Lachance also worked on Wolfenstein: The New Order, Mercenaries 2: World in Flames and Dante’s Inferno; so who knows what the studio might get up to.

“We’ve worked with some very talented developers in Montreal for a long time, and decided it was time to open a studio there,” said Bethesda’s Todd Howard. “It’s exciting to think about the new games we’ll be building together.”

Bethesda Game Studios has just wrapped up development on Fallout 4, and is presumably working on downloadable content for the title.

A Fallout spinoff in the same vein as 2010’s Fallout: New Vegas is certainly a possibility, and one we would love to see.

Unfortunately we probably won’t know what the new studio is up to for several months at least, so we’ll bury ourselves in Fallout 4 until then.

Fallout 4 launched on November 10 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

The post apocalyptic RPG managed to ship over 12 million copies in its first 24 hours of release, setting a new sales record for Bethesda.

In our review, we described Fallout 4 as “rich, strange and beautiful.”
