Beats has unveiled a brace of new products: a portable speaker called Pill and Executive, a high-end set of over-the-ear headphones.
The Pill is a small Bluetooth speaker sporting NFC technology – so if you have an NFC-equipped smartphone you can simply tap it on the device to pair it up in fuss-free fashion. Despite its diminutive size (it’s 191mm long and weighs a mere 310g), it promises to deliver “powerful sound” and a battery that gives the user seven hours of continuous use. Should it lose a Bluetooth signal, it can be set to automatically shut down after 30 minutes. It doubles as a Bluetooth speakerphone, with a built-in microphone allowing it to be used for conference calls.
It’s available in black, red and white finishes and is available on the US Beats website for $199.95 (around £125 at the time of writing).
The Beats Executive headphones slot in near the top of the Beats by Dr Dre range (although they aren’t as expensive as the Pro model). Made from aluminium alloy, stainless steel and leather, they fold flat for easy packing and are described as “made for travel”, weighing 340g. They also include active noise cancellation technology (powered by two AAA batteries) and boast hands-free calling capabilities with iOS device. They are priced at $299.95 at the Beats website (around £190).
