BBM for Android beta starts up again offering new version

Reports suggest that there’s a new BBM for Android beta available to selected test groups, offering a new version of messaging app.

BlackBerry has released a new version of the BBM for Android beta, offering a refreshed UI ahead of the much anticipated general launch.

According to CrackBerry sources, the latest BBM for Android beta offers a new welcome screen that explains about notifications and an option to toggle the constant notification for the Android status bar.

The overall UI experience has also been cleaned up a bit more in anticipation of the app’s general availability.

Although it seems that users are still in for quite a wait before the general release of the BBM for Android and iPhone app, the new beta launch suggests the process is still moving along.

Originally scheduled for a September 21 release date, BBM for Android and iPhone had to be delayed following the leak of the early beta version on the Google Play store.

“We are pausing the global roll-out of BBM for Android and iPhone,” an official BlackBerry spokeperson said on September 22. “Prior to lunching BBM for Android, an unreleased version of the BBM for Android app was posted online. Consequently, this unreleased version caused issues, which we have attempted to address throughout the day.”

“Our teams continue to work around the clock to bring BBM to Android and iPhone, but only when it’s ready and we know it will live up to your expectations of BBM.”

The BBM for Android and iPhone app was expected to be launched later that week, but now, nearly three weeks later, there’s still no revised release date announced.

“As soon as we are able, we will begin a staggered roll-out of BBM for Android and continue the roll-out of BBM for iPhone.”
