BBC Sport app launched for international audience
The BBC has launched a new BBC Sport app for international audiences, bringing news, live scores, commentary and analysis to iPhone and iPod touch owning sports fans around the world.
International sports enthusiasts can download the Apple iOS app to keep up to date on a wide variety of sports, with a customisable in-app interface to make sure users know what’s happening in their chosen sports as soon as they open the new BBC Sports app.
For football fans, the new mobile scores section keeps pace with all the action as it is happening. The latest scores and goal scorers are listed by league, and if a user requires information on a specific match, from starting line-ups to post-match reports, all the details are given by the dedicated match pages.
Keeping pace with match dates and scores can be a lengthy business, but the BBC Sports app now features an upgraded fixtures and results section that collates all UK and international football competitions by tapping a date on the in-app calendar.
“Thanks to our responsive mobile site, the sports content we provide on mobile devices is already a large traffic driver for the BBC, which gives us a competitive edge in international markets,” said Controller of digital and Technology for BBC Global News, James Montgomery.
“Now with the launch of our international sports app for iOS devices, we are giving users another simple way to get the content they love, whether it’s checking out how their team have got on, following live text updates on the day’s sporting action or catching up with the latest news.”
The BBC Sports app can now be downloaded from the Apple iOS App Store for free on devices running iOS 5 or above, including the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5 and latest 2012 iPod touch.
