Battlefield 4 weapon customisation detailed by EA Games

EA Games has outlined the way gamers will be able to customise weapons and vehicles in Battlefield 4.

Gamers will be able to get an even more personalised experience when playing Battlefield 4 with EA Games’ new weapon and vehicle customisation options.

Lead Core Game Designer Alan Kertz walks through some of the new customisation options in the new Battlefield 4 FTW video by EA Vision, showcasing the grips, sights, paintjobs and other features introduced with the game.

“One of our new things is Canted Iron Sights, this is going to allow me to switch between two sights which mean you don’t have to respawn. Which is also a bonus,” said Kertz. “So if I’m going in close, I want to be a little more stealthy [sic], I want to get the drop on people, so let’s put a Chinese Suppressor on my weapon.”

To see how the customisations affect the weapon, gamers are presented with an interactive 3D model, plus a stats sheet to show how each add-on affects the ability of that weapon, regardless of whether it is primary or secondary.

“We’ve also really taken the grips and revamped these, so I’m going to put an Ergonomic Grip on my weapon and that’s going [to] really let me move and shoot, so I don’t have [to] worry about stopping to take that accurate shot, it can get it on the move and keep going, and of course, nothing’s really complete without a really good paint job on it.”

For vehicles, EA Games has introduced an adaptive camouflage system that allows helicopters and other such transportation to blend into their surroundings automatically.

Gamers can also choose to swap out the weapons on vehicle to suit their particular play style or a specific level.

EA Games has also changed the reload system for Battlefield 4, introducing what it is calling Tier Reloading.

“Tiered reloading mean you now don’t have to play entire reload animations if you switch weapons halfway through a reload sequence. Once the clip has been removed and you switch to another weapon, switching back means you [just] have to put the clip in and fire.”

Battlefield 4 will launch for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on November 1 in the UK. It is also a launch title for both the PS4 and Xbox One.
