Officially launched at simultaneous events in Stockholm and San Francisco last night, EA has revealed the first gameplay trailer for the upcoming Battlefield 4 title.
Powered by DICE’s Frostbite 3 engine, Battlefield 4 is certainly a stunning game with photorealistic graphics, but so far the game will be launching on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 sometime this fall.
With such high calibre graphics we’re sure that the game will be coming to next generation consoles too, but with only the PS4 officially confirmed and the Xbox 720 still in the wind, EA is probably waiting to share the full range of platforms on which Battlefield 4 will be offered.
“We are so humbled and proud to debut Battlefield 4 on a global stage with simultaneous events in San Francisco and Stockholm,” said Patrick Soderlund, Executive Vice President of EA Games. “To be this early in development, and to already be so polished is a huge achievement for the DICE team and reflection of their passion and commitment to driving the franchise forward.”
In the single-player campaign, EA has assured that players will be able to traverse sprawling environments, have access to a variety of vehicles and that Battlefield 4 will be bringing in multiplayer aspects to the campaign. Gamers will be able to direct other squad mates and have their progress tracked throughout the storyline, adding a competitive edge to the single-player campaign, akin to the tactics used in the recently released Gears of War: Judgment.
The first Battlefield 4 gameplay trailer was also revealed at the events. Over 17-minutes long, the demo begins with a rather bizarre song playing on what turns out to be a car radio – Bonnie Tyler’s Total Eclipse of the heart. The player, a soldier named Recker, is trapped underwater in a sinking vehicle with his squad.
“Today’s demo was just the beginning – we have so much more in store. It is thrilling to witness people’s reaction when seeing the game for the first time. It really makes you realise that we are at the beginning of a whole new era for gaming.”
Along with the first gameplay demo, EA released a handful of official screenshots from Battlefield 4, all stunningly detailed.
“As artists and craftspeople, we are focused on creating a dynamic, open design that brings people together with amazing, surprising unscripted moments that they’ll talk about for days. That’s the beauty of Battlefield.”
EA also confirmed that anyone pre-ordering Battlefield 4 will receive a Premium Expansion pack for free, and that a Battlefield 4 beta will launch before the game’s release. Gamers who bought last year’s Medal of Honor: Warfighter title are guaranteed automatic access to the beta too.
