Bartesian is a cocktail maker that works like a coffee machine

If you like fancy cocktails but aren’t quite Tom Cruise from Cocktail, then Bartesian is for you. It’s a cocktail maker that’s as simple to use as a coffee machine. It even comes with capsules that you slot in.

All you have to do is provide the basic spirits: rum, gin, vodka and tequila. All the other ingredients – juice, bitters, liqueurs etc – are stored in the capsules. Pick the capsule for your tipple of choice, put it in the machine as you would a coffee pod, and it detects what kind of drink you’re making. It then displays instructions on the screen – place lowball glass with ice, for example.

Follow the instructions, and it’ll mix you a drink like a pro bartender. You can even choose the strength of the drink, or have it without any alcohol – a ‘mocktail’ – if you prefer.

It comes with six cocktails to start, three classics and three signature drinks. These are: margarita, sex on the beach, cosmopolitan, zest martini, bartesian breeze and uptown rocks. Expect more to be added in future.

We’d have to taste the drinks before we can comment on the end result. But the makers make a big deal of the fact the capsules use real liquid instead of powdered ingredients. It comes with a cocktail shaker too – we’re not sure why, but we guess you can look the part and fool everyone into thinking you’ve made the drinks yourself.

It’s just about to hit its funding goal and will ship in April next year. You can nab one for $299 (£192), but when the campaign ends, it will cost $400 (£257).
