Barclays to support Apple Pay by April

It’s been a long-time coming but Barclays has finally announced it will support Apple Pay by April.

The NFC service allows users to pay for items in shops by holding their smartphone up to the provided pay point.

It was launched in Britain in July 2015 and since then 15 banks and credit card issuers have signed up.

Barclays, however, has taken its time, initially declining to comment before saying it would be supporting the service.

Prior to today’s revelation, the bank maintained it would bring Apple Pay to customers by ‘early 2016’.

Now a customer by the name of Oli Foster-Burnell has posted an image of an email he received from Barclays CEO Ashok Vaswani confirming a late March launch.

Vaswani states that Apple Pay will go live ‘within the next 60 to 75 days’.

Considering the email was sent on January 12, that puts the launch date somewhere between March 12 and March 27.
