Kills rumours of a simultaneous release with Windows 7.
While Windows 7 looks to be full steam ahead for a Q3/4 launch you’ll be waiting far longer for the next generation of Microsoft Office…
None other than big cheese and shouty chair tosser Steve Ballmer was behind the news speaking at a Strategic Update to Wall Street analysts yesterday.
“Office 14 will not be this year,” he stated leaving little room for ambiguity.
Unlike Windows 7, Microsoft hadn’t publicly committed to a release timeframe for Office 14 until now though some more optimistic reports did suggest the two may debut simultaneously in the same manner as Vista and Office 2007. Much like Windows 7 however the next generation productivity suite is currently in beta testing but remains limited to select customers and deemed only at the alpha stage. Office 14 images leaked last month.
Of course some will be asking whether this move with have a knock on effect for Windows 7 and see it also slide to 2010. Personally however I’d argue the opposite with the more relaxed Office 14 timeframe allowing it to focus even more clearly on pushing 7 out on time and in good shape.
At least that’s the theory…
