B&O reveals new £1,000 BeoSound speakers – and they look like Darth Vader’s thermos

Luxury speaker maker B&O is bringing its A-game to the wireless audio market.

The company usually releases wireless and portable speakers under its affordable BeoPlay brand, but in this instance has revealed a pair of premium aluminium speakers that’ll attract its traditional customer base.

Announced at IFA 2016 in Berlin, BeoSound 1 (below) is truly portable, offers offers up to 16 hours of battery life and is compatible with Bluetooth, Google Cast and Apple AirPlay.

The 33cm tall, cone-shaped speaker weights 3.5kg and costs an eye-watering £995. However it does have have two class D amplifiers, a 40 watt full-range speaker and a 20 watt woofer providing the grunt.

If you’re looking to take things even further, the Dalek-like BeoSound 2 costs £1,350, is 43cm tall and weighs a bit more at 4.1gb.

This beast, which is designed to sit on the floor rather than a coffee table has a 40 watt tweeter, two 11 watt midrange and two 20 watt woofers.

As such, this one has to remain connected to a power source at all times.

Both speakers offer 360 degree, room-filling sound while the proximity sensors will display the controls depending on which direction you approach it from.

The BeoSound 1 is available now, while the BeoSound 2 (below) arrives at the end of October.
